Sharen Muraoka, MBA

Sharen Muraoka is currently Policy Director for the American Cancer Society, California Division’s Sacramento-based Government Relations Office. Sharen left the County of Sacramento’s federally-funded job training program to join the American Cancer Society 26 years ago. During her career with the Society, Sharen worked at the community, regional, and state level in various communications and media relations positions. Following her involvement in the successful landmark tobacco tax initiative campaign in 1988--Proposition 99, she moved to the legislative advocacy arena and has worked there ever since. As the Policy Director, Sharen assesses emerging state and local public policy issues according to the policies and positions of the American Cancer Society to inform strategy development; and develops and implements the state legislative agenda. She also staffs the Society’s Cancer & the Environment Team, which advises the organization on environmental issues in the community and in the state legislative arena. Sharen received a BA and MBA from California State University, Sacramento.
